SDK Urban Skinergy, Lisboa, Portugal, 2001 research
Carlos Sant’Ana with Sérgio Pinto
Urban space is not about floor area. When we think 3D, we discover a huge amount of urban surface that can be used to reduce the ecological footprint of the city. Skinergy concept take us into a new dimension. Interactive efficient skins with wind and solar energy sensors are the answer to the urban needs of today society. Buildings should react like Photosynthesis do in the plants, transforming environmental inputs into useful energy and information flows. For instance, a 50m high building with a floor area of 30m2 can have an active Skinergy facade surface of about 1500m2. What are we waiting for?
